An officer parked in the 400 block of North Broad Street was told by a passerby that there was a man on a nearby bus armed with a machete, according to the Philadelphia Police Department. This attack happened at 2:23 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17.

When the officer approached the bus, he saw two Black men covered in blood and holding each other, police said. One of them was wielding a meat cleaver.

The officer told the man to drop the cleaver, which he did, according to police.

After the weapon was dropped, the officer learned that the man holding the cleaver was the victim, police said. He had taken the weapon from his attacker, a 45-year-old man who was taken into custody for further investigation.

The 61-year-old victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital in stable condition, according to police.
